Faculty of Medicine Held the 2nd International Conference on Medical Genetics

Prof. Abdulrahman Alyoubi, President of the University, Prof. Adnan Zahid, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, and with the presence of Prof. Mahmoud Shaheen Al-Ahwal, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, together with some executives, opened the Second International Conference for Medical Genetics last Sunday, 26/04/1436H (15/02/2015G) on the main auditorium of the University Hospital. The conference was organized by Princess Al-Jawhara Center of Excellence in Research of Hereditary Disorders and in collaboration with Department of Emergency Medicine.
The Conference was attended by distinguished scientists from Great Britain, Germany, and United Kingdom with various disciplines and specialties including stem cell treatment and hereditary diseases of the heart. A well-known professor and scientist, Prof. Majlanda Lacko, expert on stem cell science from Institute of Genetic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Newcastle University.
The program of the conference includes a competition for the best scientific research in three different areas in genetic medicine which include clinical and molecular genetics, and genetic research for adolescent stage. Winners from each field received an award. And also, workshops were also held during the conference that featured some modern techniques in molecular diagnostics, methods in clinical examination in determining congenital anomalies associated with hereditary syndrome, and also, skill enhancement programs.
