The opening ceremony of an organ donation campaign was launched in Jeddah, Corniche last Thursday 18/07/1436H (07/05/2015G) and also, programs and exhibits were held in Al-Salam Mall last Friday and Saturday 19-20/07/1436H (08-09/05/2015G). This campaign was also held in Makkah and Taif.
The campaign was organized by the Faculty of Medicine at King Abdulaziz University, in cooperation with the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation. The Organ Donation awareness campaign aims to educate the community of the importance of organ donation, regardless of living or brain dead donor; the benefits of organ donation to a recipient patient with organ failure and helping them to regain their normal state of health to serve the community.
The Head of the campaign, Dr. Haifa Algethami, said that the idea of the campaign was arisen from the increasing numbers patients with organ failure on the waiting list every year.
The campaign also aims to illustrate the ideas and perceptions of organ donation from religious, social, health and economic aspects until the message is clearly conveyed and understood by the community.
The campaign has gained significant impact to all of the visitors during the campaign drive in Makkah and Taif. Many of the visitors signed organ donation card to their belief that this is a great form of service remuneration to Allah, the Almighty.
Dr. Haifa Algethami has expressed her sincere thanks to all of the support and contributions that made this campaign a huge success. She also thanked the private media, television channels, and radio stations. With their help, the campaign was able to reach the vast community.
