King Abdulaziz University Hospital Ob-Gyne Medical Team Successfully Removed 17Kg Ovarian Tumor from a Saudi Woman

A Ob-Gyne Surgical Team that is headed by Prof. Khalied Sait, the chair of Abdullah Basalamh of the Women's Tumors and the head of the OB-Gyne surgical team in Faculty of Medicine and King Abdulaziz University Hospital, have successfully removed a tumor weighing 17kg from the abdomen of a Saudi woman.
The members of the Ob-Gyne Surgical Team were: Dr. Nisreen Anfinan, Dr. Heba Ismail, Dr. Radi Mahmoud, Dr. Ghali Kabli, Dr. Abeer Qathami, Dr. Hanin Althagafi, and the head of the anesthesia team department, Dr. Tarek Nasr.
Prof. Khalid Sait narrated that the whole operation took four (4) hours. The patient suffered from frequent abdominal pain with an increase in weight due to the presence of tumor inside the abdomen. The patient also went to several hospitals in Jeddah until she went to King Abdulaziz University Hospital and seek the medical opinion from the Ob-Gyne Surgical Team and later found that she had a massive tumor on the left ovary. From there on, the patient was accepted abruptly and STAT medical examinations and paper works were done. She was also seen by a consultant anesthetist to prepare her for the surgical operation which will be performed by Prof. Khalid and his surgical team to remove the tumor.
There are two (2) types of ovarian tumors and which are benign and malignant. Ovarian cancer is the fifth (5th) most common tumors in women which usually occur to women of 60 years of age and it can also occur at an early age. Symptoms are weight loss, loss of appetite, pain and swelling in the abdomen.
